'Not so headline grabbing' News: Brazil government to begin paying for sex change operations
The Brazilian government will now begin to pay for sex change operations after a ruling from a federal court stated that the procedure is a "constitutional right".
In order for a local to go 'under the knife' courtesy of tax-payer funds, an application for the operation must be approved by a panel of doctors. Upon review, medical and psychological examinations will be performed.
The ruling, made on 16 August, stated that the sex change surgery was a constitutional right as much as equality and health care.
The Brazilian government admitted during legal proceeding that it did not have enough money to fund all of the operations, but has announced that it will not appeal the ruling.
It is believed that as many as one in ten thousand Brazilians are after the sexual reassignment surgery.

I sincerely hope this doesn't set a precedence around the world. If it became available worldwide like this, I am worried it would result in people making wrong decisions, not to mention that mockery that could be made of it. What do you think?
